Fate/Stay Night

I didn't see any topic for this VN, whose was the first I played and I was thinking that it was seriously missing!
For the one who don't know it here is the synopsis :
Fuyuki City is the setting for a secret and violent war among competing magi. For the past two centuries, seven magi were gathered and engage in a Battle Royale, each gambling his or her own life to obtain the Holy Grail, a legendary chalice capable of granting wishes. The past four Holy Grail Wars have typically occurred every sixty years, with the most recent concluding a decade ago, but the fifth war has eerily started prematurely.

Each magus, better known as Masters, are aided by one of the seven summoned spiritual familiars known as Servants, who are the reincarnations of legendary souls from all across time. These resurrected Heroic Spirits, possess superhuman characteristics and wield powerful artifacts or abilities called Noble Phantasms. Only one Servant can be summoned in each war from one of seven classes: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Berserker, Rider, Assassin, and Caster.

We follow the story of Emiya Shirou, a young magus who become master without any knowledge of the war.

Feel free to speak about the Visual Novel or the anime (the old one or the new). And by the way let's speak about the other : Fate/Zero, Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, Fate/Kaleid Line Prisma Ilya etc...

OMG! FINALLY ANOTHER F/SN FAN!!!

YOU DESERVE A PAT FOR MAKING THIS THREAD!

I love this series! There's a ton of things I wanted to say, but I'll type it later. (great wall of text lol)

Anyways, F/SN is an awesome VN. It's a must read for any VN reader, especially if you like complex plots with twist & turns. I gotta warn you though, this VN is not for the faint hearted. It's a "black & gray morality" story, which means it's dark & edgy. It's pretty long, & there are 3 routes, best played in these chronological order: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's Feel. Then after you've completed all 3 routes, the "Final Episode" will be unlocked, an epic conclusion that will leave you breathless.

I score this VN a 10/10.

One of my most favorite titles of all times. Also, if you want to know about the prequel (which is the previous Holy Grail War, the 4th to be exact), I suggest you watch Fate/Zero animated by UFOtable. It is simply AWESOME. It's just as dark, so again, not for the faint hearted.

I rate F/Z a 10/10

Just my kind of story. I don't want to spoil anything, it's better if you see for yourself. If you like this kind of genre, then you won't be disappointed with these 2 titles.

Also, it revolves around fantasy & magic, but it's also complex. Again, I only have one thing to say: both are AWESOME.

Though if you want spoilers or have read it & want to discuss... I'm very okay with it. 8)

The only way to truly hurt a man, is to take everything that he valued and degrade it and remind him of it everyday of his life. But by doing this, you also create a monster, and you will regret ever harming that man, because he will be your greatest horror.

Well, more like I never knew, since people rarely, if ever, discuss about this title... I wonder why...

Maybe because it's one of these famous titles that everyone "knows" but rarely anyone played.
I myself only played through the first story branch ("Fate"?).

With some of the content (Heaven Feel mostly) it can sometimes get to an awkward situation if you say/ask too much about it...
In fact most of the time I speak about it because of parody of Unlimited Blade Work, whose are many and popular

Then after you've completed all 3 routes, the "Final Episode" will be unlocked, an epic conclusion that will leave you breathless.

Wait, there was such a "final episode"? I mean, I remember the epilogue but it was extremely short and abstract, and I don't think you can't even count it as an "episode". Aren't you confusing it with Hollow/Ataraxia or some of the most epic endings of Heaven's Feel?

As for the VN itself, it's good, but in my opinion, like most "must-have VNs" is fairly overrated (UBW as a route is very awesome, but everything of heaven's feel except the fights is pretty forced, and the first route is very standard). Fate/Zero is a lot better balanced in general, even if it still has some rough spots and decided to forgo some genuinely good ideas.
Why can only the evil have empires, power and majestic theme music? I reclaim the possibility of creating the Federal-democratic-free Empire! A (democratic) tyranny fueled by the Power of Love!

The "Final Episode" is added in the Realta Nua version. It's a conclusion to the F/SN series. I'm not going to spoil anything, best read it yourself. And no, it's not abstract the way I see it. That, & this is TYPE-MOON we're talking about.

Also, I have Fate/Hollow Ataraxia as well, so I know the difference clearly.

And well, the overrated part always exist for any kind of work. Remember no matter how good a work is, there will always be someone out there who won't like it for multiple reasons, so I'll just leave it at that.

F/SN does have it's flaws, but the majority of the story itself more than makes up for it.

My favorite ending is the good one of UBW, but if we think of Hollow Ataraxia as another ending, it would be a very good ending too.

But that was what I was referring as the "epilogue"? And lengthy? I mean, it's been a while since I played so I may be confusing something but it even lasted more than 10 minutes?

And it was kind of abstract to me, more or less because the only explanation is MAGIC and LOVE and nothing else...

Not a huge fan of the F/SN VN or Tsukihime for that matter.  Kara no Kyoukai on the other hand...
