Spoiler
My dad got me this model a few days ago.

PzKpfw VI Tiger Ausf. E

It's a 1/43 replica of a real Tiger (number 312) that belonged to the schwere Panzer-Abteilung 505 and fought for the first time in the Battle of Kursk.

This Panzer division was created in February 1943 and was disbanded when Nazi Germany surrendered. It was mainly composed of Tiger and Tiger II tanks and fought in several battles in the Eastern Front, such as the aforementioned Battle of Kursk, where it destroyed 111 enemy tanks. The schwere Panzer-Abteilung 505 also took part in defensive battles in Lithuania and East Prussia against the Red Army. The division also fought in Poland (e.g. Warsaw) in 1944, so maybe Tenkay/Flyingpad knows more about this Panzer division. The remains of the division made a last stand in Königsberg in 1945, but the Soviets captured the remaining tanks near the Baltic coast and conquered Königsberg, now known as Kaliningrad.

And now, as a reward for reading this history lesson, here you have a few pictures of the real Tiger number 312. Note the knight riding a horse that is painted on the tank's turret. It's the 505th division's insignia.

I guess they liked horses a lot. :P

Btw, here's the link to the gallery where I found the pictures.

So many Tigers!

Because of them, Russia was able to expand it's borders and relocate an entire population that called Konigsberg home for several centuries. Funny how things turn out. Konigsberg best tier V, by the way. ;)

I'll just leave this here.

I got another tank model a few weeks ago. This is a variant of the famous M4 Sherman.

M4A3 (76mm) Sherman

The M4 Sherman, officially Medium Tank M4, was the most numerous battle tank used by the United States and some of the other Western Allies in World War II. The M4 Sherman proved to be reliable, relatively cheap to produce and available in great numbers. Thousands were distributed through the Lend-Lease program to the British Commonwealth and Soviet Union. The tank was named by the British for the American Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman. (This is another famous General Sherman namesake.)

This specific variant was built by two manufacturers from Michigan: Fisher Tank Arsenal from Grand Blanc and Detroit Tank Arsenal from Warren.

1925 units were built starting on March 1944 until April 1945. My model has the older VVSS type suspension, which was also used on other tanks such as the M3 Lee. Tanks built after August 1944 got a HVSS type suspension, which was also used in other variants such as the "Easy Eight". You can see the difference in the following picture. The top one is VVSS and the bottom one is HVSS.

As you can read in the picture, this tank was Abrams' first 76mm Sherman and the one he commanded in Bastogne, Belgium. Abrams commanded the 37th Tank Battalion during the siege.

According to some internet sources, the right insignia was “Thunderbolt VI” (erroneously labeled “Thunderbolt IV”). I don't know if this information is correct, though.

Meta will like my next tank model post. It'll be about a quite interesting French tank! :3

French tank? The only one I can think of is the B1 bis, for it's the only one that wasn't actually useless. De Gaulle was one of the strong advocate of using tank as a main force supported by aerial force, but the French thought that infantry was the best and wanted tanks only as a support to it. In the end the German did what De Gaulle thought we should have done, and sadly he was completely right.
Anyway, that means that most of our tank were light and only here to help infantry take trench, because France was readying itself for WW1-2nd round, not WW2, and the B1 bis was I think the only tank that actually had result against the Panzers.
