Hyperspace Secret Santa 2015

That's right! It's our very own Secret Santa for Hyperspace members!
Get involved, make others happy, good cheer and merriness and sherry and...kotatsus....

Signup Deadline - 20/11/15

Anyway! The rules are simple! Sign up by copying and pasting the application info below with your own details, and sending it to [email protected], run by yours truly! Select the tiers you want, list things you'd like. Then once the deadline passes, I will get to work and try to match everyone with a secret santa by 23rd November. If we can, we will try to match you to people living in your own country or nearby, to reduce postage/shipping costs. Please keep those in mind since they can stack up, especially if you send a gift late. The higher up in the tier you are, the more to ship, the bigger the items. And another note - if you decide to grinch someone (sign up at the last minute to a high tier, receive lots of gifts and never give back) you will be named, shamed and banned.

*IMPORTANT* - You will be matched with someone in your own tier, so if you opt to send on $5 worth of loot, your secret santa will only send you $5 worth of loot. Or maybe more if they're generous and lovely. Just don't beg for an expensive fig if you're only sending them paperclips...

FAQ

What's Secret Santa? How does it work? - A secret santa is a person who gives you a gift on Christmas anonymously. It's supposed to be a nice random surprise. The way it works here is that you apply, and then your address and wishlist is given to someone in the same tier as you. You won't know who they are, unless they sign the card they send to you. You do your part, buying/making and sending off a gift to someone. Then you simply wait for your gift to come through, hopefully in time for Christmas. When packages arrive, we'll have another thread open for people to post pictures of their gifts and thank yous to everyone.

But I don't have any cash! Can I do something cheap? - You can make a homemade card or just send on a store-bought one. Cheapest option postage wise, shows someone you care and you get one back. The more you opt to send out, the more you get back in return! Also, if you really care and you're nice, you can try baking some cookies or sending on homemade gifts. Just be wary of eating unpackaged food. Be sure you trust the forums here and what your santa may send you.

How can I make sure I get something I like/want? - With this, it's more the thought that counts but you have an option on the application to suggest gifts, your favorite shows. We recommend you don't ask for an extremely specific gift, unless you can't live without it and you know you'd never buy it yourself (for some reason). Half the fun is in the surprise you get, the other half is in surprising someone else :3

Can I celebrate in other non-gift/card ways? - We might be doing something Xmasy themed on the forums. This was just another nice idea to show anons you care.

Can I send multiple gifts or does it have to be one big gift? - We recommend sending a main gift, and if you have money left over, send on smaller gifts with it. It wouldn't be fair for someone in the $75 tier to get 75 $1 gifts. Aim for a main gift if you can, but sending on smaller gifts is a nice gesture too. Try to be generous with the tier you've chosen. It's the season of giving as well as getting  8)

How can you be sure I won't be grinched? - We can't, but we're aiming to keep out any applicants with dodgy applications, fewer than a certain number of posts, and evidently new users who have signed up to the forums simply for a chance at free stuff. If you're a long time user who just wants to grinch, you're a baka who needs to go watch...well, The Grinch for one. Maybe A Christmas Carol too...baka...

Eh, I'm sort of lazy (and stuck on campus...) would it possible to send game codes for STEAM? I'm not saying I'd do it necessarily... but I'd definitely look into it seeing as I might be doing that for my Imouto for Christmas... Also... I kinna don't wanna give you all my real name... I like being anonymous...

I think that's fine, that's what I thought he meant originally :D
It's the same concept, just digital, doesn't sound like a problem

The Bigfoot: Curse you penguins! I knew all that waddling and falling around was a bluff|woolyshambler: frankly i'm surprised the genetically enhanced mutant penguins hadn't shown up sooner. you could say i've been expecting them. |GreyCat: duke could be better at spelling, but he chooses instead to spend his time focusing on arse|The Meta concedes Penguins are better|Deeox2: Looked like the commbox collectively lost it. Nice.|Jynx: Yandere Duke scares me... A lot.|Deeox2: Hey. It ain't lewd. I'm just waiting for Duke to kiss me|Elvis Strunk: Silly Duke. I am the woman, you are the penguin.

The main point with real names is to give some real world grounding, especially when it comes to gift-giving. It also shows a level of commitment and helps to prevent grinching.

Added a tier for digital gift-givers.

Ahahaha, ok, ok. I understand completely. Right, so basically buy any of the Sakura X games and give it to someone and hope that they haven't bought it already. (JK)... Um, okay then. I might do this if I can get a STEAM card and a good game. I'd really prefer not to give a game that even I wouldn't play myself. I haven't actually given a STEAM Code gift before, but I swear it should be very intuitive...

It's not as though I can't afford to send physical objects, but... there's logistical difficulties with that for someone living in a college dorm with no vehicle aside from a bike that I will soon have to stop using because it's getting too cold out.

I can send cards to anybody just about, I've got int'l stamps. but sending other things will be challenging, and pretty much impossible if not in the US/PR.

When I first learned about this, I thought it would all be done digitally. Probably through steam.

I'd like to participate, however I doubt I'd be able to contribute much, if anything. :-\

This seems fun. But now I have to think of stuff that I want. Hmmm...

Please be careful not to fall into any holes in reality caused by my reality hole generator. If you do fall in though, I can assure you that there will be no adverse side effects except for the following: instantaneous mutation, loss of 1 or more vital organs, turning into banana pudding, amnesia, loss/growth of 1 or more limbs, additional vital organs, loss of DNA, insanity, hallucinations, destruction of the fabric of space and time, redundancy, redundancy, a craving for apples, the ability to see shinigami, for females: an erection lasting more than 4 hours, for males: extremely painful menstrual cramps, testicular inversion, gender swapping, the urge to watch my little pony, and/or death

Hu, it's a nice idea, but I'll probably have to pass. Combination of things + perennial lack of cash + probably the shipping alone will raise it 10$ even if it's sent to France or Germany (furthermore the fact that sending it would probably be a slight adventure itself).

On a personal note, I think this might work better if gifts are only digital.
