Title: Kendo Crush!
Post by: Kuroneko on April 03, 2014, 10:39:06 pm
I found this both on Steam and Kickstarter.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2081517796/kendo-crush-visual-novel-game

and it's on steam somewhere, but too lazy to find it / link it.

It seems like a good game and it has voice acting and good quality art.

EDIT: Here is their Steam Greenlight page if you wanna up vote it

I only go on kickstarter when someone links to it. I'll have a look, but from what I can see, not a lot of space in this one.

The only thing that make me hesittate to back this project is the fact that "there is no adult content planned at this time". Need more adult content on KS VNs projects :D

The responses on steam still managed to get a lot of 'wtf' etc.

The most interesting part is that this is a fully voiced VN. Well, that might be one of the reason, why they don't have adult content in it....
They should have made a Kendo minigame in this VN :D

Based on what I saw of the discussion pages for anime inspired games, a lot of people go on and trash them simply because of the artstyle/location of origin/style of influence. It's really annoying how closed-minded people can be. I get not liking something, but why do they purposely seek out every single item that's in the category they don't like and then make a post about how they don't like it?

Welcome to the internet. Back in my day, you ignored things you don't like. Nowdays, you bury them and their makers in hate. Even people that do like anime infight enough to damage things.

I've read some of the comments on Greenlight page, and some of them complaining about the voice acting. I myself don't really have a problem with the trailer voice acting. So, what do you guys think?

That funding goal seems.....rather high to Lord Gorchnik.

There also seem to be quite a few of these on KS now as well.

Well, the yaoi VN on KS has $70K goal. I haven't check their latest standing, but I think they should have surpassed their goal by now.

I backed that game, not sure how good the final product will be...but I backed it anyway. I like VNs as long as they aren't crap.

I bet people are going apeshit over a yaoi VN

To be fair, you've never met and sat next to one in class for two years. In my left, a girl was drawing yaoi and in front was a girl drawing hentai. On my right, ... yuri. They are rather more human than you know.

Hello Everyone!

It is PixelFade Studios. We received quite a number of backers directed from this forum so we thought we'd come by and express our appreciation. :)

I did want to mention that our reception on Steam Greenlight has actually been significantly more positive based on the "Yes"/"No" statistics. There are a few unpleasant comments but thankfully that is a minority.

If you guys have any questions, please feel free to ask and we'll do our best to answer!

Thanks Again,

How did you learn of our Headquarters!?

I'm kidding, like a lot of kickstarters I see a lot (That don't look like obvious scams) I hope it goes well for you all.
Not a huge fan of the VN you guys and girls are doing but I hope it's fairly good.

And suddenly, I had a vision of the future, in which every Kickstarter-based visual novel obtains a subsection on this forum. And none of them have anything to  with space.

On a more serious note, I haven't checked out the demo for this game yet, though I did download it. Currently dealing with video card and monitor issues, which leave me incapable of viewing red. Planning to give it a shot as soon as I fix the issues. Not that I have any money to back anything with currently, but at least I'll be able to provide some feedback.

Weeell, if you want to get REALLY technical about it, every story of a VN takes place somewhere. That place it most likely a planet, orbiting some star.... IN SPACE! There, crisis averted.  :D

It is also not hard to google your games name and find topics and stuff on other sites / forums / whatever either.

I only made this because, well, people here like VNs I'd assume. I've also linked the Greenlight page way back too in case I forgot to say anything. I dunno if I'll back this game or not yet... I may wait for it to come out or just hope to god they do a paypal backer option like they did a few other games I sadly couldn't back on time.

We need to add more proxies :D.

Checked the backers of Kendo Crush! I've found one Asaga and one Ava :D, and few other Sunrider backers.

Or they can change the title to Lightsaber Crush! The story take place in a Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. For the bad ending, the character turned to the dark side and become Sith Lord.

Epic space journey with Commander Protag and his mighty crew spanning over a trilogy of games.
The ending being somewhat anti-climatic as everything you did lead to what colour your shirt is.
Also everyone loves Bali and Farrus.

So, since the creator of this game took his/her time to actually show up in this forum and promote the game. I have to at least try the demo version. Here is my impression after I finished the demo:

Good:
1. I like the character animations, they look alive with all the blinking eyes, and great facial emotions.
2. I also like those emoji bubbles.
3. The music is good.
4. QTE fighting game. It's quite well executed.
5. I love the cooking part, it reminds me of Persona 4 when you need to prepare for tomorrow bento.

Bad:
1. They mixed some Japanese in the dialogue. Why do they have to use Kiritsu, Rei, Chakuseki instead of Stand, Bow, Sit? Imagine if you watch Lord of the Rings and they don't translate the Elven language... I do approve using Japanese for some of the Kendo terms, but at least they should have give a note about what it means.
2. If they really aim to be more Japanese, they should at least pronounce Karate in Japanese and not the English pronounciation.
3. The younger sister refer to the protagonist as Onii-chan....and big brother. Well, it's not changed that often, but I do prefer some consistency.
4. The game asked about some details on Kendo, and the answer options has some Japanese term without explanation whatsoever.
5. You can learn how to set a typical Japanese dinner table. The game asked you where the position of the rice bowl, soup bowl, and chopsticks are. Of course some of you will say that this is a good point. But what if I tell you that they're having Ramen for dinner? Of course I'm not Japanese, and maybe real Japanese would love to have their ramen with a bowl of rice and soup. Oh yeah, we can actually choose what's for dinner, so maybe that question is actually set for the other dinner menu option, which is Spaghetti....

Final verdict from the demo:
The creator of this game has put quite a lot of effort to make this a great game. However, I think they're trying too hard to fit in as much Japanese culture / details in this game as they can. They should cut back on the details and focus more on the story. Will I back this game? Maybe, I'll wait until the last 48 hours, and see what kind of updates they have for this game.

edit:
There is not even one bit of fanservice in the demo, which is quite disappointing :D

edit 2:
Almost forgot to mention, that there is a reference to Star Wars in this game. So, Lightsaber Crush! is not a far fetched idea :D

Digital Arts but it was free drawing time so you can draw whatever you want in Photoshop.

This was an Art Program that I entered. We played Egyptian Rat Screw and Pythagoras(BS in math class). Both are card games.

I've never in my life met those kinda people thank god.
And you're a black cat and I'm the white cat? :3

Don't you like being normal? You mean it seem like being abnormal IS normal.

That aside, my friends and I were rebels and we set up a card table in math class. Teacher didn't care since we have a better average in the class and could still answer questions even when playing cards. Ah such fun times doing "hard" math classes and rocking on card games.

Is there anyone else in this forum that backed this game?

I have backed it. I hope it gets more moneys. Their are a lot of people on steam that don't seem to want to back it that have voiced their interest though (purely my view based on yes votes). I think the 12k might be a bit of a push in the last few days though if its going to work out. I hope it all does...

Edit: for 40000 yes votes, only 183 backers is a little sad. Made a comment on the steam chat, but the chances of anyone ever reading it are slim I think.

I have to say after playing the demo, I found the game quite cute. The feature that lets you roll back time with the mouse wheel is a little broken, but being able to was fun since you get to see that they have heaps of reactions built in to the game, even in these early stages. Quite a lot of fun reading everything and very funny at times too. I didn't find all the voices too jaring. Nikki was just a little bit too loud so hopefully they add a volume for each character, or I'll turn all the characters down. the quick time events weren't too bad but I was thinking it would have been nice to maybe colour code which sort of thing went where. Even a circular design so that you can move more fluidly between the different options.

My two cents anyway.

I made spaghetti, and got it perfect, since I actually know how to make spaghetti irl. Master Chef Led.

What did you call your character? I called mine Rob since that name seemed to suit the guys looks. The last name would be a puzzle though since we don't know much about the parents or which side the uncle is on. I might be a safe bet that he is the mothers brother though so people could realistically call themselves by their real name. Not being American, I gave my character a different name.

Edit: Wouldn't it be something if they got their game on this forum too? Then again, if more and more games joined this forum, then any new games would want to join from the start and that might not be such a good thing.

Played the demo twice, and I name my character something like "ajldhafsnk lkzncl", and "acnofjejon kjnalkfn" :D

Well, it's up to this forum's top brass if they letting any other VNs project to join this forum. However, I don't think that Kendo Crush!  is going to fit in this forum. Anyway, if anything, they can at least use this thread :D
