Title: That Nintendo Thingy. The Switchamacallit.
Post by: Elvis Strunk on March 02, 2017, 10:56:45 pm
Hello friends. It is time I reveal a very carefully hidden, shameful secret. I am very excited about the Nintendo Switch~

I figured there might be some more people that're excited for it too! And that maybe it'd be cool to have a place to discuss it, and to add, like, friend codes and stuff, so people can be friends and stuff.

Anyway...

Neon or Grey?

Originally wanted the grey a lot more, since it matches the system and I dislike the idea of the two joycon being different. But over time I've grown to appreciate the neon about as much. Still, the OCD in my brain would be pleased to get grey.

...all inferior to how awesome a pure white system would be though. Gonna have a white monitor, keyboard, mouse, tower, 3DS, headphones, and controller. And then a Grey Switch.

Grey. Hope the launch version doesn't have the sync problem reviews talked about, though.

Grey. Hope the launch version doesn't have the sync problem reviews talked about, though.
Maybe the day 1 patch fixed it, or maybe the issue has been way overblown (not that these two options are mutually exclusive), but the only way I've been able to "reproduce" this sync issue so fact is by going to about 2 car lengths' distance from the Switch, squatting down while facing away from it, and basically surround as much of my body and limbs as possible around the left Joy-Con.

... I wrote it myself, but that description sounds more like somebody with a painful stomach ache bent over an Asian squat toilet. ;D

Perfect, I was bit worried. Have a pat for the great description too.

It does seem like a pretty fun game~ Honestly, it isn't my type of thing, really. I really love the idea behind open world games, but I always lose interest in stuff like Skyrim or Fallout before too long. But I've continued to enjoy Breath of the Wild the entire time I've played it so far, and I think that'll continue~

even if I absolutely suck at it~

It's also my second Zelda game ever, after Link's Awakening. So it might have been a bit of a strange transition~

also grey joycon best joycon. because it is my joycon.

Just finished participating in the second hour of the Splatoon 2 Testfire event, my biggest reaction:
DAMN YOU MUSCLE MEMORY!!!
Spoiler
(Kept hitting X to jump, when that just causes the map to pop open, instead of pressing B.)
[close]

Which brings me to my second reaction:
It's also more troublesome to quick jump now, since instead of just tapping the Wii U Gamepad touchscreen for who you want to jump to, you need to 1) open the map, 2) press direction for who you want to jump to, 3) press A. This change probably also guarantees that it's impossible to implement Squid Beakons.

Otherwise:
Loving the new maps and weapons, and the adjustments for returning weapons.

Played both of the events so far and I'm enjoying the game so far. Never played the first one, and I suck at shooters entirely, but I'm only mostly awful instead of entirely awful! I think I may pick the game up when it comes out maybe. Plus squid lolis are surprisingly cute.

Also completely unrelated but The Binding of Isaac is awesome and I'm really awful at it.

I now have a Switch.

A person from your calc class randomly decided to buy you a Switch. That seems rather fortuitous.

BTW, I also got myself a Switch. So when more cool Multiplayer games como out, count me in for some Hyperspace Tournaments.

As well as a remaster of The World Ends With You, a new edition of Tropical Freeze which lets you play as Funky Kong, a Mario Tennis title if that's your shtick. Lotsa good stuff announced ^_^

As well as Switch, the Dark Souls remaster will also be coming to XBONE, PS4 and PC. The xbox edition will apparently be at true 4K resolution, though this probably belongs in a DS thread. Do we have one of those?

My and your post are the only posts on this entire forum to mention Dark Souls.

Not by much I wouldn't have thought. The specs aren't as different as one might expect.
Title: Re: That Nintendo Thingy. The Switchamacallit.
Post by: mikebrand83 on January 11, 2018, 11:46:30 pm
Looks like my PS4 Pro is going to keep gathering dust, because if I am going to get Dark Souls Remastered at all, it'd probably be the Switch version.

Meanwhile, we're also getting Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition, combining all of the contents of the Wii U and 3DS versions. Definitely going to grab that, along with TWEWY.

I'm more surprised nobody mentioned that the Direct also revealed a Switch version of Ys VIII (though I heard that NIS America made a huge mess of Ys VIII's localization and basically had to redo it all, dampening people's enthusiasm for the game). And SNK Heroines, for those who were hungry for a fan servicey fighter.

Heyo, friends.

As you may or may not care about, Nintendo's paid online service is gonna be starting soon. I'm planning to pick up the family plan option, allegedly allowing for up to eight different accounts- including on different Switches- to access online. Now of course, I'm gonna be using one slot, and the second is reserved, but there should still be six slots left for anybody that wants one. So basically, leave a post if you'd like to get online for free.

I might not pick it up as soon as it's available, but it'll be within a month, so please have patience as well~ I also reserve the right to remove someone if I deem it necessary but that probably won't come up. One account per person, also! If you have more than one, you'll have to take care of the extras yourself, to be fair to others. Also I doubt it'll come up but you have to already be someone I know, no new accounts mysteriously appearing just to post here~

SLOTS
1: Elvis
2: Dee
3: Arra (eventually)
4: Mike
5: WhyBuy (eventually)

That's generous! I'd ask for a slot but I don' t have a Switch. Haha. If I get one in the future and you still have slots open I'll see if I can take you up on that.

You should triple check the TOS to make sure it own't be an issue having somebody logging on from another country.

What exactly does the online service give someone? Rather, IF I bought a Switch to only play single player games, should I care about the Online Service?

well in the US it gives you access to some back-catalog games for free. Not sure if that's a worldwide thing.

Cloud save backups are gated behind the online subscription service.

Dumb, but. That's how it is.

Yeah, I saw Jim Sterling's take on this issue... Ah well... I guess I'll gamble on the integrity of the on system storage (whenever I get a Switch).

All righty, I believe everything is set up~ Now, I just need the email address of the people Imma invite; please either post the email you used for your account here, or send me a PM~ For those without accounts thus far, you can either make one that I can add now, for your use later, or just wait until you get the system and give me the address then~

Also it seems you need to go into your email and confirm you wanna join, within twenty-four hours of being invited, so there's that too~

Would personally recommend that as soon as you have Nintendo Network active, go through System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud Backup, then go through the list and run Back Up Save Data on every compatible game.

Nintendo has let the Switch go for so long without any official alternative methods to back up your saved games (*grumbles at Nintendo being Nintendo*), so donít delay any further before backing up all of your saves to cloud ASAP.

Nintendo and everybody involved really outdid themselves with this one:
https://youtu.be/Q7z1Ny1kc6g

For the next year, every teaser/trailer done in a game seriesí theme will have people wondering if itís really about that game, or if itís the next announcement in this vein.
